Forget wizardry - books this year are all about juicy female dramas - and we mean bitchy teen queens, historical epics and lots of SITC-inspired gossip stories.

Confessions by Kate Brian is a sexy boarding school story. Imagine Mean Girls but much darker and with a murder plot.

It's totally addictive and it's a shame it's only 231 pages long, because we didn't want it to end. The author has her own Myspace page too, so you can investigate all you want!

The new hot TV series to hit our screens this spring is The Gossip Girls.  It will kick off on ITV2 in March, but you can get a taste for the story thanks to the original novel, Gossip Girl by Cecily Von Ziegesar. If you loved the O.C, this one's for you. The girls are manicured, mega-rich kids from New York with gorgeous boyfriends and wardrobes to match.

It's a long way off but make a diary note to buy The Luxe by Anna Godbersen in July (we'll have more on the book nearer the time). The book was an instant best seller in the States last year. It's a historical drama bursting with glam parties, beautiful debutantes and a good dose of scandal.

So if you know anyone traveling Stateside, you know what to ask for!
